YouTuber Gaurav Taneja arrested after birthday celebration with fans at Noida metro station goes wrong

Popular YouTuber Gaurav Taneja was arrested in Noida for allegedly violating Section 144 of the CrPc after thousands of his fans thronged a metro station to celebrate his 36th birthday.

An engineer from IIT Kharagpur and a pilot, Taneja runs a YouTube channel under the name ‘Flying Beast’. He had planned to celebrate his birthday at the Sector 51 Metro Station in Noida and had posted an Instagram invite asking followers to gather at the station.

Following the post, thousands of fans showed up at the metro station causing a near stampede-like situation. Taneja has reportedly been booked for wrongful restraint and disobedience under the Indian Penal Code.

Taneja, according to an NMRC official, had requested a booking for the party. He was asked to inform the local authorities so that arrangements could be made for the same. The police claimed Taneja had not sought permission nor informed authorities about the celebration.

Taneja’s wife Ritu Rathee, who has over 1.6 million followers on Instagram, said that she had booked an entire metro for her husband’s birthday. The melee resulted in a massive traffic jam inconveniencing many. The police took cognisance of the situation and apprehended Taneja. Section 144 was already in place in the area as part of Covid ruling.
