Yankees injury update on pitcher is equal parts encouraging and frustrating

The Yankees confirmed that Carlos Rodon’s CT scan results were all good but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be on the mound any time soon.

Signing Carlos Rodon to a six-year, $162 million in December felt like a huge win for the Yankees rotation. And it probably still would if New York had gotten to see their new star pitcher in action.

The month of April is coming to a close and still Rodon has not started a game for the Yankees. He picked up a left forearm strain in spring training to delay his debut, then developed back discomfort just as he was nearing a return from the forearm issue.

Aaron Boone had good news and bad news on Sunday with regard to Rodon.

Carlos Rodon injury update: CT scan clear but return to wait until June

The good news? A CT scan on Rodon’s back revealed nothing abnormal, so the back issue isn’t something significant to worry about.

The bad news? Rodon is still not expected to make a return until mid-June at the earliest, that’s according to Randy Miller of NJ.com.

When it became clear Rodon wouldn’t be able to start the season, he tried to ease concerns by pointing to the importance of the end of the season rather than the beginning.

“I’m not here to pitch until the All-Star break,” Rodon said per the NY Post. “I’m here to pitch well into October and whenever this team needs me.”

At that time, his targeted return was in April. Now it’s June.

Obviously, patience is required, and it’ll be worth the wait if Rodon pitches like the All-Star he’s been for the past two seasons. But watching a player who has struggled to stay healthy in the past having his Yankees debut delayed into the summer is understandably frustrating.
