Xiaomi releases MIUI 13 with advanced privacy and security – Times of India

Xiaomi CEO and co-founder Lei Jun has revealed the MIUI 13 at an event that also saw the launch of Xiaomi 12 series. This new user interface is expected to have enhanced security features and improved privacy. It is also going to allow multiple Xiaomi devices in a single network to connect with the XiaoAI voice assistant. These devices include — tablets, phones, wearables, TVs and smart home devices.
As privacy has turned out to be an important aspect for smartphone users, Xiaomi has introduced a three-step verification process for enhanced security. Although, there is no confirmation about this feature working globally. The first layer is facial recognition, next comes watermark reading of the user’s ID, and then comes the layer which is called“electronic fraud protection”.
The facial recognition is not only limited to the user’s face and it claims to do full upper-body recognition. If you set the facial recognition, the company claims that with this new feature the phone will be able to record everything from the waist up. This feature stops other people with different body structures from getting inside your phone, even if their face matches.
The “electronic fraud protection” will save the numbers from your phonebook and the user of the phone will be notified before accepting the call. But, this feature will also have a record of devices and websites that might bring in malware.
Xiaomi has also introduced a new font for the MIUI 13 which is named means and it is free for users to download and install it. It is supposed to be a sans-serif font that looks to be more symmetrical for both spacing and the character appearance. The company claims that this font is expected to simplify letters, numbers and signs.
Not only the font has changed but the colors have also changed and all phones with MIUI 13 will receive new wallpaper options. There are several new widgets redesigned to align better in a grid.
Xiaomi has also developed the MIUI 13 Pad, which is designed for tablets. It is developed to work on big screens and claims to be better with multitasking. Although, there’s no confirmation whether the Mi Mix Fold will get it.
Over 3000 apps were already developed to support the feature and it is expected to come with Pad-specific gestures like –drag-and-drop, pinch-to-resize or directly opening an app in a smaller window.
It is expected to be rolled out for the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi Mi 11 series in January 2022 and might also be released to several Redmi TVs. It is important to note that MIUI 13 is also designed for Redmi and Poco phones, which are also independent brands.
