Watch video: Sharmila Tagore opens up on facing the camera after years, reveals ‘your muscle memory just takes over’ – Times of India

The last time we saw the everygreen Sharmila Tagore grace the screen was in Break Ke Baad, co-starring Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan. The veteran actor is now set to make a comeback, this time on the OTT space, with her movie Gulmohar.
While recently promoting the same, the evergreen beauty was asked to describe the exact moment when she faced the camera for the first time after so long. To this, the Kashmir Ki Kali said, “It just felt wonderful. Your muscle memory or whatever you want to call it just takes over. You feel that you had never left and I was so comfortable with the camera.”

The actor also spoke about her relationship with the audience and how movie actors are unable to gauge their reaction in real time. She continued, “Unlike theatre people, we don’t see any live audience. On the other hand, theatre artists instantly know that audience bore ho rahi hai, ye lines theek se nahi ho rahi etc. However, with us, we interact directly with the camera, so no I did not feel strange at all.”

The 78-year old also spoke about the difference between shooting for the big screen and OTT. She said, “Like it is with movies, I am used to start, sound, camera and here, as soon as action was announced, I started speaking and then I realised that someone else had said something, followed by someone else, so there were 3-4 lines of communication, before we actually start rolling – that was new, but something that I learnt quickly.”

The actor finally added, “Really, from start sound to action and cut, is the moment we live in, aapko jo karna hai usi mein karna hai – in that moment, you become somebody else, like I became Kusum (her character in Gulmohar). That moment is so magical that I can’t describe it with anyone else.”

Gulmohar is the heartwarming tale of a family, headed by a matriarch, who has decided to sell their ancestral home. The movie co-stars Manoj Bajpayee, Suraj Sharma, Simran and Amol Palekar. Directed by Rahul V. Chittella, it will stream on a leading OTT platform from March 3.
