Cardi B has been making the fall 2023 couture shows in Paris her fashion playground this week. The rapper has been hitting up all the presentations—including Jean Paul Gaultier, Thom Browne, and Balenciaga—in epic style. One of her best was at the Schiaparelli show on Monday. The star even allowed Vogue in on her getting-ready process in an exclusive video.
Given it was Cardi’s first time attending couture week, the rapper says she was excited to attend and see all of the clothes. We first met the superstar at her hotel, where she started getting into hair and makeup for the big day. “Isn’t this hotel lovely? Fit for a queen, like myself,” she joked. “The whole outfit is black and gold, so I’m hoping that the gold pops up on my eye shadow,” she told her makeup artist. “It’s always about looking chic. Even when you see people getting coffee in Paris, they look naturally chic.”
Once glammed, the rapper then got into her striking ensemble for the show: a black Schiaparelli column gown punctuated with gold trim, and a gold statement ear-shaped earring (yes, you read that right). “Schiaparelli is a great balance of doing too much—but not looking pathetic,” says Cardi. “I feel beautiful. I love the whole look.” While she was clearly show-ready, the star joked that the couture was not her main reason for being in the City of Light. “I really came here to buy a Birkin bag,” she says. “I cannot find it anywhere in the States. I’ve been looking for this Birkin for two months!” Even if the couture shows were just a pitstop, she made them look really good.
