Vivek Agnihotri on what went wrong with Adipurush: Making something you don’t believe in was a mistake on the part of makers – Exclusive! | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Om Raut’s Adipurush was panned universally for its poor depiction of an epic tale like Ramayana, shoddy VFX and sub-standard dialogues. The movie, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in key roles raked in big numbers initially, but soon fell flat on its face. Recently Vivek Agnihotri, who directed the successful but controversial movie The Kashmir Files, spoke exclusively to ETimes on what he thought went wrong with Adipurush.

Talking more about it, Vivek said, “When you make something you don’t believe in, just because aajkal yeh chal raha hai, you are definitely going to go wrong. When you pick up stories of faith, either you yourself should have 100% conviction or you should be well versed in the subject like a historian, but unfortunately, no one does that in India.”
He further went on to say that the fate of all such movies will be the same, unless treated exceptionally well. He added, “Anybody who will try to take stars for either Mahabharat or Ramayana, will never be able to complete it. Even if they manage to complete it, they will see the same fate as Ramayana. There’s a reason why Mahabharat, Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana have been entrenched in everyone’s psyche for years. If something has lasted for 5000 years, there has to be a reason for it.”

“If someone comes on screen and says, Hey I’m God, it doesn’t make you God. If you are being driven home drunk every night, you cannot turn around tomorrow and say I’m God, believe me. Nobody is going to believe that. People are not idiots, ” he signed off.
