UFC Vegas 35: Who is Vanessa Demopoulos?

Get to know the UFC’s newest flyweight debutant, Vanessa Demopoulos, ahead of UFC Vegas 35.

Flyweight Vanessa Demopoulos will make her long-awaited walk to the Octagon Saturday night at UFC Vegas 35 during the event’s preliminary portion, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Demopoulos will face JJ Aldrich in a flyweight encounter, as Dempoulos enters the bout at 6-3 overall.

Her debut is her second appearance of 2021, as she’s coming into the promotion off of a TKO victory against Cynthia Arceo at LFA 103 in March. The win was her first since July 2020, as the victory against Arceo snapped a two-fight skid.

Demopoulos had an opportunity to earn a UFC contract in the Fall of 2020, but a loss to current UFC fighter, Cory McKenna, during the second week of season 4 of Dana White’s Contender Series, delayed those plans.  She now has a chance to seize a second opportunity and earn her first UFC win. In nine appearances, Demopoulos has four stoppage victories, as she has finished three fights by submission, and one bout, her most recent outing, by KO/TKO. Her three defeats, though, have all come by decision. Thus far, Demopoulos has competed in MMA since Oct. 2012, going 4-1 on the amateur scene before turning professional in Dec. 2017.

Who is JJ Aldrich?

Aldrich, who is 9-4 as a professional, took a similar path to her opponent to get to the UFC. After earning back-to-back wins on the regional scene, she signed with the promotion in Dec. 2016 and has defeated the likes of Danielle Taylor and Polyana Viana thus far. She recently defeated Courtney Casey in March by split decision, as she earned her first win since Oct. 2019. The victory was her fifth inside the Octagon, as she’ll look to make it two-straight with another performance Saturday night.

Can Demopoulos ruin Aldrich’s momentum or will Aldrich hand Demopoulos her first-ever UFC loss? The world will find out Saturday night.

UFC Vegas 35 takes place on Aug. 28, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided for all your live news and highlights.
