Twitter team doing best it can under constraints: Jack Dorsey after Elon Musk sets limits on usage

“Running Twitter is hard. I don’t wish that stress upon anyone. I trust that the team is doing their best under the constraints they have, which are immense. It’s easy to critique the decisions from afar…which I’m guilty of…but I know the goal is to see Twitter thrive. It will,” the former CEO tweeted.

Dorsey also batted for censorship-resistant open protocols like Bitcoin to help ease that burden.

“And I do hope they consider building on truly censorship-resistant open protocols like Bitcoin and Nostr to help ease that burden. Good for all, and critical to preserve the open internet,” he said.

When one of the users termed his opinions as a “subtle jab on Twitter”, Dorsey replied, “Not at all. It’s always had unmatched potential. Still does.”

On Saturday, a massive outage hit the platform with users complaining they saw “ rate limit exceeded” messages on their timelines.

Musk said the social media company had imposed temporary reading limits on the number of tweets users can read per day, to prevent “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation”.

Twitter Blue subscribers or verified users are currently limited to reading 6,000 tweets per day while people who have not paid for Twitter Blue or unverified users are limited to reading 600 tweets per day. New unverified accounts will be limited to reading 300 tweets per day, Musk said in a tweet.

These limits will be increasing soon to 8,000 tweets per day for verified users, 800 for unverified users, and 400 for new unverified users, Musk said in a second tweet.
In a third tweet, Musk said, the reading limit will be 10,000 tweets per day for verified users, 1,000 for unverified users, and 500 for new unverified users.
