Trinamool Congress ‘outsider’ in Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya Chief minister Conrad Sangma on Monday labelled the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress as “outsider” in Meghalaya.

Sangma, while launching campaign at Adokgre in North Garo hills, said, “We have great respect for the TMC leader Mamata Banerjee as she had once supported my father and she has huge respect for late P.A Sangma, but in politics TMC is new in Meghalaya and they will need lot of time to create any sort of impact here. Their leaders are all old players, who have come from congress and have got scope to serve Meghalaya when they were in congress but have failed. TMC is yet to understand the northeast and its people. They would need time, they are an outsider in Meghalaya just like TMC had claimed BJP and other national parties were outsiders in Bengal elections.”

Sangma, ” People of Garo hills should remember late P.A Sangma and vote for NPP. We have all joined the NPP to take his footprints forward”.

Of the 60 total seats in Meghalaya, 24 are in the Garo hills region.

Lone NCP legislator quits
Lone Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator on Monday quit the Assembly and the party before joining the opposition Congress.

So far, 19 Meghalaya MLAs have resigned from the assembly and their respective parties and joined different other parties in around two months.

NCP MLA Saleng Sangma, a senior politician in northeastern state, has submitted his resignation letter to Commissioner and Secretary of Meghalaya assembly Andrew Simons.

Sangma later joined the Congress.

He was elected to the Meghalaya legislative assembly in 2018 from the Gambegre constituency in the West Garo Hills district.
