Tillotama Shome is one of the finest actors in the country and she has proven this time and again with her works in projects like Monsoon Wedding, Sir , Delhi Crime, Qissa etc. The actress is currently in the midst of promoting the second installment of her show The Night Manager, an Indian adaptation of a British show by the same name.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actress talked about the Late Irrfan Khan, with whom she had gotten multiple opportunities to work from Shadows of Time to Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost to Hindi Mediumetc. She mentioned, “It was during the special screening of The Namesake in New York, we met again after working in India. He had this uncanny quality to look through me and within me. He realised that I was very unhappy in America and my time, my honeymoon period with America was over. And he said, ‘Come back’. And I did, I just came back.”
When asked if she misses him, she told us, “He has given me a lot and he has given all of us so much, with his body of work, diversity of roles he played. I was so lucky to have had so many opportunities to work with him. And in Qissa, I got to play his son.”
She added, “What I’ve learned from him, and what I learned from Anoop Singh on the sets of Qissa are tools that I can use in any film. Every time I use one of those tools, I thank Irrfan and I thank Anoop and I keep him alive. Every time I talk to a tree, or see an amazing bird, the bird stops for me and the flower blooms for me. And I get to walk in a beautiful forest and I am reminded of the vastness of the universe. I feel like I’m talking to Irrfan because that was what I learned from him. He was not just concerned with the material. It always felt like he was having a larger conversation. You are so aware of things around him.”
