This man was accidentally locked inside Kmart

It’s something most diehard Kmart fans can only dream of.

But one Brisbane man has gone viral on TikTok after sharing how he was accidentally locked inside his local Kmart – something he still “can’t believe” happened.

TikTok user @danstubetv said he had entered the Wynum Plaza branch just before closing and missed announcements the Kmart would be shutting soon.

In a video that’s been viewed more than 237,000 times, a bewildered Dan can be seen standing in the dark store, before managing to communicate with a security guard outside the Kmart who seemed equally as baffled by the situation.

Eventually Dan was freed by a Kmart staff member, who led him on a “walk of shame” out of the store.

In a follow-up video, Dan said he was still shocked by the hilarious turn of events.

“I can’t believe this happened,” he said.

“Lockdown in Queensland finished at 4pm, I filmed a video at home, I got to Kmart at 5.50pm, had obviously missed the quarter-to and 10-to announcements (saying), ‘Hey we’re shutting soon.’

“I greeted the lady at the front saying, ‘Hi,’ I’m then casually browsing the store for stuff and out of nowhere boom the lights go down and I’m in this situation going what is happening?”

Dan said he then “started running around the store” trying to work out what had happened while yelling “Hello, is anyone here?” before getting the attention of someone outside the Kmart.

“Then I finally get a hold of a security guard and we’re trying to figure out what can I do here,” he said.

“So I decide I’ll go to the back door and I’ll try one of the fire doors And I get out of the fire doors but stumble across a staff member.”

The employee was then able to let Dan out of the store and his locked-down Kmart adventure was over.

Dan’s experience has gotten hundreds of comments, with people labelling the mix-up “hilarious” and “gold”.

Some joked that they wouldn’t be mad if it happened to them, with one person commenting: “Getting locked in a Kmart sounds like a good time.”

“Being locked in Kmart would be fun tho,” another person remarked.

Others said that customers getting locked inside stores happened more often than people realise.

“I worked at Big W years ago, we always did 5 to (closing) and on the dot announcements for this reason. It’s happened before!” one person wrote.

“This happened to me in Priceline, it was scary lol,” one commenter said.

“I was once locked in a store too! I had to call the police,” another revealed.
