This is what Google CEO Sundar Pichai has to say on Apple’s $3500 Vision Pro – Times of India

Apple recently launched its first-ever augmented reality headset Vision Pro. With Apple Vision Pro, Apple is taking its first shot at AR glasses that have reportedly been almost 8 years in the making. As widely speculated, Vision Pro comes with a separate battery pack and can be controlled with eyes, hands and voice. Priced at $3,499 onwards, Vision Pro will launch early next year, starting in the US market with more countries to follow later in the year.
While Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t seem too impressed with Apple Vision Pro and Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared a meme about the headset, Google CEO Sundar Pichai is “excited” about the technology.
In an interview to Bloomberg, he was asked what he thinks of Apple’s Vision Pro headset and where does that fit in? Replying to the question, Pichai said, “I literally haven’t used or seen it, but we’ve always felt computing will evolve beyond the black rectangles. We will have more immersive experiences. I’m excited about the potential for the technology.”

Last week, Zuckerberg addressed Apple’s headset unveiling in a meeting with Meta employees. During the company-wide meeting, the CEO said that Apple’s device didn’t present any major breakthroughs in technology that Meta hadn’t “already explored” and that its vision for how people will use the device is “not the one that I want.”
He also pointed out that at $499, Meta’s upcoming Quest 3 headset will be much cheaper to the Vision Pro’s $3,499 price tag. The affordability factor gives Meta the opening to reach a wider user base. “I think that their announcement really showcases the difference in the values and the vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important,” Zuckerberg told employees, who were gathered at the company’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters for reportedly its first all-hands meeting since the year 2020.
Zuckerberg said that the Quest is about “people interacting in new ways and feeling closer” while also “about being active and doing things.” In contrast, he said that every demo of Vision Pro at WWDC showed “was a person sitting on a couch by themself.” “I mean, that could be the vision of the future of computing, but like, it’s not the one that I want,” he added.
