‘The Mountain’ Hafthor Bjornsson shows off staggering 56kg weight loss

Hafthor Bjornsson tipped the scales at 205kg when he was crowned the World’s Strongest man — but he looks very different now.

Hafthor Bjornsson has lost an incredible 56kg ahead of this weekend’s fight with Canadian arm-wrestler Devon Larratt.

Speaking to Muscle and Health, Bjornsson — who played “The Mountain” in hit TV show Game of Thrones — revealed he’s in peak condition for his third ever boxing bout.

Bjornsson was supposed to take on strongman rival Eddie Hall this weekend before the Brit suffered an injury. Instead of taking swings at Hall, Bjornsson, who holds the world-record deadlift at 501kg, will instead fight world No. 1 arm wrestler Larratt after shedding plenty of kilos.

Bjornsson, 32, won the World’s Strongest Man title in 2018 after finishing as runner-up in 2016 and 2017. He was beaten by Hall for top spot in 2017.

The Game of Thrones star weighed a mind-boggling 205kg when he was crowned the World’s Strongest Man three years ago. But the Icelandic giant, who admits he would love to fight British heavyweight boxing sensation Tyson Fury next, is loose and limber at a trim 149kg.

Bjornsson told Muscle and Health: “I don’t really weigh myself, but the last time I did, I was 149kg.

“I’m not getting heavier, that’s a fact. I don’t really have a plan for the fight weight.

“I just want to be in good shape, feel good and obviously be able to last the full six rounds.

“When I was competing in World’s Strongest Man, I was eating six to seven meals a day and hitting around 10,000 calories.

“I felt OK, but because of my body weight I never really felt great. No one feels great at 205kg.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re strong or whatever, just being that heavy takes a lot of energy out of you.

“Of course, having transitioned to boxing, my diet has changed a lot. I’m eating a lot less, very clean.”

In an Instagram post this week, Bjornsson posted photos of himself now, showing how different his body shape is compared to a few years ago.

“What one word describes these six pictures? #beforeandafter,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Bjornsson and Hall hope to finally face each other in the ring in March 2022.

The Brit is confident of taking Bjornsson down in the third round, should they ever face off, claiming “The Mountain” should expect a “broken jaw”.
