The Beauty at Molly Goddard Channeled 1980s Camden Market
For her fall 2022 runway show, Molly Goddard turned the clock back to the 1980s. No, not power suits and big shoulder pads, but rather your friend’s mum walking down Camden market on a Sunday morning kind of ’80s. Or rather, Goddard’s friend’s mum, who loosely inspired the collection.
Taking place at the Seymour Leisure Centre, the show was a jubilant celebration full of cozy knits, eclectic prints and Goddard’s signature tulle dresses, all layered on top of each other to create that mismatched, just-thrown-on look.
Similarly, the makeup was glam but undone. “I would describe the look as pared-back glam with a real feel,” says makeup artist Thom Walker. “A bit home-made.” Skin was prepped and glowing courtesy of the 111Skin team. This was topped by Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin Caring Glow Foundation “to create minimal effortless cover.” Walker used stippling brushes to create a natural buffed-in finish, using concealer under the eyes where needed.
The core element of the look was a winged eye, which combined with the clothes added to the overall eclecticism. “We use Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel to create a perfectly black solid liquid liner. The liner was super straight to bring in an ’80s feel whilst still feeling modern and graphic,” Walker explained. To create that wide-eyed look, Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara was used only on the lower lashes.
