Stipe Miocic would be ‘easy money’ for Jon Jones on heavyweight debut, claims Henry Cejudo

Stipe Miocic would be ‘easy money’ for Jon Jones in heavyweight debut and lacks the ‘scary power’ of Francis Ngannou, claims Henry Cejudo

  • Jon Jones has not fought since vacating his light-heavyweight title
  • His move up a division is yet to take place but he could face Stipe Miocic
  • Former heavyweight champion is regarded as one of the best of all time
  • But Henry Cejudo believes he would be ‘easy money’ for ‘Bones’ if they meet

Stipe Miocic would be ‘easy money’ for Jon Jones if the former light-heavyweight agrees to face him, according to Henry Cejudo.

Jones has been out of the octagon for more than two years since vacating his light-heavyweight belt and talking up a move to heavyweight to cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all time.

Miocic is awaiting his next opponent after being dethroned by Francis Ngannou last year and a meeting with Jones has been touted for July at UFC 276.

A clash between the pair would generate plenty of interest and put the winner in pole position for a shot at the title.

Cejudo would favour ‘Bones’ in the match-up. ‘I love this fight for Jon just because everything that Stipe has, Jon is better at,’ he said on The Triple C & Schmo Show.

‘If he was fighting a Francis Ngannou, I was a little more cautious with that one just because of pure power and when you have somebody that has scary power like that, it’s a strength that kinda overwhelms whomever. You got power, but Francis Ngannou power is different.

‘But with the Stipe fight, I like it for Jon. I think it’s gonna allow Jon to really work on everything – like mixed martial arts as a whole, not just sticking to one base.

Henry Cejudo believes it would be ‘easy money’ for Jones against Miocic

‘So at the end of the day, I think it’s easy money for Jon Jones.’

He continued: ‘Jon’s coming out here with a different perspective. His perspective now is to bring back the Jonny Jones that was putting out Lyoto Machida, Shogun Rua, when he went on that rampage of just killing the elite.

‘That spirit in him is gonna be awoken if it is that he fights in July.’

The general consensus is that Jones was a fading force at light-heavyweight, perhaps due to a lack of motivation from exciting fresh challenges.

He will truly be able to test himself at heavyweight but disagreements over pay have delayed his debut in the highest weight category.

It seems the impasse will be resolved this years and with so much new blood at heavyweight, it will be a huge bonus for the UFC to be able to throw Jones into the mix.
