Stewart Cink dons a brand-new Suns Kevin Durant jersey at the Phoenix Open’s 16th hole

Stewart Cink made a great first impression during the Waste Management Phoenix Open by playing up to the crowd at the famous par-3 16th hole known as ‘The Coliseum’.

Just hours after Kevin Durant was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns, Cink stepped up to take his tee shot by putting on a hot-off-the-presses KD jersey.

To the delight of the masses watching on, Cink stepped up and struck his tee shot, but left it almost 100 feet short of the cup. 

Cink then rolled his ball all the way up two slopes and just barely rolled it past the hole – leaving it within five feet of the pin.

He then promptly finished out his par put, walking off the hole while remaining at -1 on the day.

Cink put on a Kevin Durant jersey, just hours after the basketball star was traded to the Suns

As he was walking off, Cink tossed the new threads up into the crowd – into the hands of one of the rowdy patrons watching on.

This is not the first time that a golfer chose to wear the threads of another sport while playing on No. 16

Last year, Max Homa paid off a bet he made with fellow golfer J.T. Poston over the results of baseball’s World Series. Homa, a Dodgers fan, wore an Atlanta Braves jersey with Poston’s name on the back after Atlanta won the World Series in 2021. 

Back in 2020, a number of golfers chose to wear jerseys honoring Kobe Bryant, who had died just weeks before.

Additionally, Jon Rahm has worn the jersey of late Arizona State and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman, who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2004.
