He said it was due to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Fit India Campaign was launched and the idea was to make the youth of the country mentally and physically fit.
He said this while addressing the felicitation ceremony of the Fit India Quiz state-level winners organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in Mumbai this evening.
The minister said, 13 thousand 502 schools and 36 thousand 299 students from 626 districts participated in the Fit India Quiz.
He said that winners of the fit India quiz are ambassadors of sports and fitness, adding that the amount of knowledge they have is not possessed by others.
The Minister also exhorted the teachers to talk about the New Education Policy (NEP).
Prize money amounting to 99 lakh rupees were awarded to 72 students and 36 schools from across the country.
360 schools competed in the State Rounds which took place during the months of February and March 2022. 36 teams (two students in each team) of the state rounds and their school representatives were awarded the prize money, with the school being awarded 2 lakh 50 thousand and two students being rewarded Rs. 12 thousand five hundred-.
From Maharashtra, Tanay Gautam Sheth and Aakash Viswanath from P. G. Garodia School in Mumbai bagged the State Level Champion award of the Fit India Quiz.
Launched with an aim to create awareness among students about India’s rich sporting history, the Fit India Quiz was launched as an initiative that saw participation of 36,299 students in the preliminary rounds where 13,500 schools competed online on a platform hosted by National Testing Agency. Out of which, 360 selected schools competed in the State Rounds. After a series of quarter-final and semi-final rounds, the finalists from 36 States/UTs were identified for participating in the National Finals.
The National Round of the Fit India Quiz will be conducted soon and will be telecast on a private sports broadcaster.
