According to the RFEC, Estela Domínguez, who was just 19 years old, was considered as “one of the most promising national riders.” The RFEC expressed their deepest regret over her death and extended their heartfelt condolences to her family and her fellow team members. The statement added, “All Spanish cycling is in mourning.”

The RFEC also mentioned that Domínguez achieved a second place ranking in the junior category of the Spanish Women’s Cup in 2022. She was also a member of the Spanish National team and participated in the Tour du Gévaudan Occitanie in the Nations Cup.

Her racing team, Sopela, who she had joined at the start of 2023, said, “With immense pain, we have learned the news that Estela Domínguez has died this afternoon as a victim of a crash while training.”

Alejandro Valverde, the winner of the 2009 Vuelta a España, took to social media to express his condolences. In a tweet, he wrote, “There are no words that serve something like this. All my love to the family and friends of Estela Domínguez and especially her father with whom I shared a squad in my early years. D.E.P.”

According to Reuters, Estela’s father was Juan Carlos Domínguez, who won a stage of the Giro d’Italia.
