SYDNEY: Spain and Argentina both won their ATP Cup ties with some ease as men’s professional tennis returned for the 2022 season in the lucrative team tournament today. Spain, who are without Rafa Nadal, beat Chile 3-0. Argentina also completed a 3-0 win against Georgia. In the evening session, Greece fell to a 2-1 loss to Poland as world No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas pulled out of his singles match due to a niggling right elbow issue. Serbia, who are without world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, earned a 2-1 victory over Norway.

U-23 sprinter Taranjeet Kaur fails dope test
India’s fastest Under-23 sprinter Taranjeet Kaur of Delhi has failed an in-competition dope test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency, a source said today. The 20-year-old Delhi sprinter was one of the country’s best performing youngsters in 2021. She won gold in 100m and 200m in the National U-23 Championships in September. Just a week before that, she won 100m gold and 200m silver in the National Open Championships though many top athletes skipped the meet.
