Sony to make its EV with F1 World Championship winning car maker, launch set for 2025

Sony and Honda have joined hands for releasing an electric vehicle to market in 2025. Know all about it here.

Sony and Honda are coming together to work on an Electric Vehicle! As part of the latest developments, Sony and Honda have agreed to work together on a battery powered Electric Vehicle project, the plan of which is to release a car by 2025 for the market. The two Japanese companies said in a statement that they would form a joint venture to develop and sell the electric vehicles. The JV will happen this year and the first model born out of this venture will hit the market in 2025.

However, it won’t likely be carrying the Sony badge on the bonnet. The deal lets Honda make the car bits while Sony will be in charge of the mobility service, entertainment, and other techy bits. An official press announcement will be happening soon.

Sony and Honda to make EVs together

The announcement comes at a time when Sony’s biggest rival, Apple, has also bene rumoured to work on its own EV. While Apple’s EV plans are expected to materialise by the end of this decade, Sony and Honda will have their car ready by 2025. Honda, which recently supplied the Formula 1 World Championship winning team Red Bull Honda F1, already has experience in making electric vehicles in some of its global markets.

Sony, on the other hand, is known for making the popular PlayStation consoles and some of the world’s best entertainment gadgets and appliances. Sony had recently shown off its Vision-S Coupe as its first electric vehicle at the CES 2022 event. The company has been testing the prototype for some years now and it seems the JV with Honda could see this car become a reality. The Vision-S is essentially a four-door coupe with looks that resembles Tesla vehicles.

With Sony taking the lead in the EV space, it remains to be seen what its rivals from South East Asia and the Western markets have in store for us. Brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo and a few more have expressed interest in building and selling their own EVs. On the Indian scene, Ola took a big step ahead with its electric scooters, jumping straight from its ride-hailing service. And with the right pricing, it has shown that a tech company building and selling its EV can be a hit among customers.
