Shahid Kapoor opens up about ditching HUGE OTT deal to release ‘Jersey’ in theatres – Times of India

After months of delays owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, Shahid Kapoor is finally ready to release his film on the big screen on April 14.

Ahead of the film’s threatrical debut, the actor got candid about his film and his decision to turn down a huge OTT offer, just for fans to catch the film on the big screen. In a chat with pinkvilla.com, Kapoor said that their confidence in the film helped in taking the final call.

“We made this film with the intent of being viewed on the big screen,” he told the portal and went on to explain that the film is best when viewed with a group of people.

Admitting that a lot of money is on the line, he also said that he will be keeping a tab on the box office numbers. “Most actors do keep a tab of all the numbers,” he said.

After the film’s release on December 31 was delayed again due to a partial closure of theatres, rumours were rife that team ‘Jersey’ received a big offer from a leading OTT giant to release the film online and keep its date with the audience.

However, it was later reported that Sasha took a pay cut to ensure that the film gets its big-screen release.

Speaking on the delay of the film, Shahid said that the team didn’t want to release the film ‘when the mood of the nation was not right’.

The film was set to release a month after Ranveer Singh’s sports drama ’83 hit theatres. The big-budget film directed by Kabir Khan, unfortunately, could not hit the mark at the box office.
