And just like that… Sarah Jessica Parker leans into method dressing with a very Carrie Bradshaw-coded outfit. The Vogue digital cover star celebrated the 25th anniversary of Sex and the City with a lighting ceremony atop the Empire State Building on Wednesday night. The famed New York skyscraper turned its iconic lights pink to celebrate the show’s commemoration. For the occasion, Parker wore mix-and-matched dots, donning a black jumpsuit adorned with a large polka dot bow on the bodice and modish heels with the same black and white pattern.
This is not the first time Parker and Bradshaw have merged wardrobes. For her most recent cover shoot with Vogue, the star wore an exhilarating blend of iconic archival pieces worn on the original Sex and the City series and new, original pieces inspired in-part by the character (like the revamped Fendi baguette). The intriguing blend of actor and character continues, of course, with the season two premiere of And Just Like That, which tracks Carrie at an interesting point in her Upper East Sider life.
While not all of us can pull off clashing patterns with the same chutzpah as SJP/Carrie, a bold mix-and-match spirit is certainly in the air. British label Chopova Lowena has made its name via punk-inflected clashing prints. While Pharrell’s star-studded debut presentation for Louis Vuitton featured models carrying pairs of monogrammed duffle bags in contrasting colors like red and green. Maybe opposites really do attract. At least, when it comes to styling.
