Roma are ‘in advanced talks to sign Leeds defender Rasmus Nissen Kristensen’ with Dane ‘set for loan move’ after only 12-months at Elland Road

Roma are reportedly pushing to sign Leeds defender Rasmus Nissen Kristensen with talks said to be in ‘advanced stages.’

The Denmark international played 26 times in his sole campaign at Elland after joining from Austrian outfit RB Salzburg for around £8.5m.

Italian side Roma, who were interested in purchasing the right-back last summer, are closing in on a deal following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.

According to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzo, no agreement has been reached between the two clubs, though Kristensen has made his intention to leave clear. The respective teams are discussing the structure of a potential deal ‘that should be based on a loan.’

Kristensen’s acquisition would be the third signing of what is shaping up to be a busy summer in the Italian capital.

Evan Ndicka and Houssem Aouar have already walked through the doors at the Stadio Olimpico on free transfers, while the club has recouped more than £16million from the sales of Ruben Providence, Benjamin Tahirovic and Justin Kluivert – who joined Bournemouth earlier this week.

Jose Mourinho’s beaten Europa League finalists have faint ambitions of mounting a title challenge next season but are constrained by their precarious Financial Fair Play position which has necessitated shrewd additions following years of high spending.

The club suffered a huge blow in the final exchanges of the league campaign when Tammy Abraham, their most valuable asset, went down with an ACL injury, scuppering any chance of a lucrative summer transfer to the Premier League.

As a result Mourinho, who was recently handed a four-match ban for his antics after the Europa League final, will have to make do with free agents and loan deals such as the one proposed for Kristensen.
