The Vancouver Canucks announced Wednesday that former goaltender Roberto Luongo will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honour during the 2023-24 season.

Luongo’s induction was unanimously voted on by other former players, broadcasters, and members of the hockey club. The announcement comes just a few weeks after Luongo was formerly inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, alongside former teammates Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
Drafted by the New York Islanders in 1997, Luongo spent several seasons with the Florida Panthers before he was traded to the Canucks in 2006. Over eight seasons in Vancouver, the Montreal native appeared in 448 regular-season games.
He is the club’s all-time wins leader with 252 wins and also holds the franchise record for career shutouts (38), saves in a game (72), wins in a season (47) and games played in a season (75). Among Canuck goaltenders who played in 100 games or more, Luongo also ranks first in goals-against average (2.36) and save-percentage (.919).
Helping the team advance to the playoffs four times, he played a major role in the Canucks’ journey to the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Over 64 post-season game appearances, he recorded 32 wins with the team.
In 2014, Luongo was traded back to the Panthers where he spent the remainder of his NHL career.

“Roberto is one of the greatest Canucks of all time and we are thrilled to be able to officially congratulate him and celebrate all his accomplishments with this franchise,” said team owner Francesco Aquilini. “For eight years, he amazed and entertained us, brought us to our feet, and made us believe. He was a true professional who led by example, both on and off the ice, and we look forward to permanently recognizing him in the Ring of Honour alongside other Vancouver Canucks legends.”
Luongo marks the eighth player to be inducted into the Canucks Ring of Honour, as it presently includes Orland Kurtenbach, Kirk McLean, Thomas Gradin, Harold Snepsts, Pat Quinn, Mattias Ohlund, and Alex Burrows.
