As India celebrates 73rd Republic Day on January 26, 2022, Google Doodle today showcased the country’s culture in its Republic Day 2022 Google Doodle.
Republic Day 2022 Google Doodle: As India celebrates 73rd Republic Day today, Google India homepage has depicted the different elements of the parade that take place at Rajpath in New Delhi comprising symbols representing the country’s culture. Republic Day 2022 Google Doodle today showcases the different parade animals including an elephant, a horse, a dog, a camel as well as a red tabla; the parade path; a saxophone as part of the iconic camel-mounted band; doves; and the tricolors of the national flag to represent India’s rich culture and heritage.
On this day in 1950, India’s Constitution came into effect and hence the day commemorates India’s transition to an independent republic. The day is also celebrated as the anniversary of the declaration of Purna Swaraj (complete freedom) by the Indian National Congress in 1929.
Republic Day celebrations take place over a three-day period which comprises cultural events to honour the resilience, history, and diverse social fabric of the world’s largest democracy. The largest official display of national pride held today is the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath in New Delhi. The parade features a float for Indian states alongside dozens of bands, folk dancers, and the Defence forces.
This year, the parade will be held under the shadow of the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic. With the rise in Omicron cases across the country, this year only a few people are allowed to attend the parade physically. However, even though only a few people can witness the Republic Day parade as it happens along Rajpath, others can also be a part of it virtually. The Ministry of Defence has introduced a new portal http://www.indianrdc.mod.gov.in where the parade will be live streamed. It will also be live telecast on Doordarshan as well as PIB’s YouTube channel.
The parade ceremony starts with a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the National War Memorial where he leads the nation to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers. After that, President Ram Nath Kovind will hoist the Tricolour at the Red Fort, followed by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute.
