Report: Pistons to interview Raptors’ Adrian Griffin for head coaching job

In their search for a new head coach, the Detroit Pistons will reportedly interview Toronto Raptors coach Adrian Griffin, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Detroit’s head coaching job became available after the team announced that current boss and former Raptors head coach Dwayne Casey would be moving into a role in the front office.

The Pistons finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference this season with a 17-65 record.

Detroit is the second team to reportedly be interested in Griffin, as earlier this week the Houston Rockets were also linked to the assistant coach.

The Athletic‘s Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the Rockets will interview  Griffin as they also search for a new head coach and that they could also target Toronto head coach Nick Nurse if he becomes available.

Griffin has been an assistant under Nurse since he became head coach in 2018. The former NBA player also has been an assistant for the Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Meanwhile, Nurse’s future has been in question with the Raptors since finishing a disappointing 41-41 in the regular season and crashing out against the Bulls in the NBA’s play-in tournament.

Nurse addressed the media less than 24 hours after the team’s season-ending loss and made no declarations about his future.

“Listen, I love it here. We’ve built a really strong culture here … we all got to evaluate where we can get back to being a playoff team … and then getting to a level of winning it all, that’s what we get up and to work to do for the last 10 years,” Nurse said.
