Red Wings’ Zadina, Islanders’ Andreoff set to have contracts terminated

Detroit Red Wings winger Filip Zadina and New York Islanders forward Andy Andreoff were placed on unconditional waivers Thursday and are facing contract termination, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Zadina, 23, is owed $4.56 million in salary over the next two seasons. If he clears waivers, the former first-round draft pick, who was selected sixth overall in 2018, could sign anywhere he wishes.

Zadina, from Czechia, has 28 goals and 68 points in 190 NHL games over the course of five seasons. He asked for a trade before the draft, and the Red Wings placed him on regular waivers on Tuesday. Available to any team, everyone passed.

Andreoff, 32, is a veteran of eight NHL seasons and has 27 points in 188 games with the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and Islanders. He is owed $762,500 for next season, the last of a two-year deal.
