In the movie, there is a sequence, when Tota Roy Chowdhury, who plays Alia’s Bengali father in the movie, dances with Ranveer Singh’s character, Rocky. Tota, who plays a Kathak dancer, is seen in a ‘jugalbandi’ with Ranveer, who matches steps with him on the Dola Re Dola song, from the movie Devdas. Now, theatres in Kolkata erupted with joy and laughter when this sequence was played out in the movie and was greeted with claps and applause. Many celebs have taken to their social media handle to shower love on the movie. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, praising Karan Johar said, “The way karan addresses all kinds of snobbery , all kinds of shame and phobias that come from our conditioning , the way he addresses our conditioning with all the humour and aplomb and joharisms.. was totally sucked in his world.”
He also was full of praise for the the leading couple Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and the writing team.
