Rangers hero Nacho Novo reveals the ‘gut feeling’ that turned him against Celtic move

RANGERS hero Nacho Novo has revealed that a gut feeling turned him against a possible transfer to Celtic.

The Spaniard left Dundee in 2004 and both sides of the Glasgow divide agreed deals with the Dens Park outfit.

It was then up to Novo to decide where his future would be and he famously held talks at Parkhead over a move.

In the end though, Novo decided to join Rangers and the rest, as they say, is history.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “Dundee were keen for that move to happen and pushed me into talking to Celtic.

“I didn’t mean any disrespect to Celtic as a club or the manager, Martin O’Neill – I simply had a gut feeling that it wasn’t the right move for me.

“I already had my heart set on Rangers and they’d been interested in me for some time.

“Before my mother passed away, she told me to always go to a club that really wanted me, and I got that impression from Rangers.

“I also knew some of the players there. I’d been out for dinner with guys like Mikel Arteta, Ronald de Boer and Shota Arveladze – it was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Novo also hailed the Rangers fans as the best support he had played under during his career.

He added: “They’ve always been amazing with me (the fans).

“What blew my mind was when people sent me photos of my face tattooed on their body.

“Some good ones and some, er, not so good ones!

“I felt that I’d made the right decision straight away.

“I still meet Rangers fans wherever I go in the world, it doesn’t matter where it is.

“They’re all over the place. It’s a huge club.”
