The holy month of Ramadan is being celebrated with full force all across India! This festival is of immense importance to the Islamic community and is celebrated by praying to God and observing fast all month long. This year, Ramadan 2022 started on 2nd April and shall culminate on 2nd May, with Eid-al-Fitr being celebrated the very next day! Devotees observe a day-long fast from sunrise to sunset known as ‘Roza’, and during this time, people abstain from all kinds of food and drinks, even water. One can only consume food during ‘Sehri’, i.e. before sunrise and ‘Iftar’ i.e. after sunset. Keeping this in mind, we have found a quick and easy dessert recipe that can be enjoyed for ‘Sehri’ as well as ‘Iftar’ and it is dates kheer!

Kheer is probably the most popular Indian dessert in the cuisine! This milky, creamy and porridge-like sweet dish is often made with rice, but we have found a recipe that uses dates (khajoor) to make this delicacy. The best part about this recipe is that you don’t need to add sugar in this recipe, the natural sweetness of dates is what makes this dish so delicious.
Ramadan Special: How To Make Dates Kheer
Start by sauteing cashew in ghee till it is brown. Keep this aside. Heat ghee in the same pan. Add mashed dates, make sure they have no seeds. Pour water into the pan, and let it cook till the dates are soft and mushy. Pour the milk and let it boil until it combines. Sprinkle in some cardamom powder. Add the browned cashew nuts to the pan and mix. The dates kheer is ready!
