Rafael Devers update: Jeff Passan comment should terrify Red Sox fans

ESPN’s Jeff Passan has compared the Rafael Devers situation to Mookie Betts and that’s terrible news for Red Sox fans everywhere.

Much has been made of the Boston Red Sox failing to get a contract extension done with star third baseman Rafael Devers before the start of the 2022 campaign. Devers is a true stud in this league and he wants a major payday.

However, is he asking for too much? According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Boston has offered Devers a new contract north of $200 million. Devers is wanting something in the $300 million range.

Rafael Devers and Boston aren’t close in contract talks

That update should concern Boston nation as a whole. To make matters worse, Passan is comparing their negotiations to Mookie Betts. Everyone knows what happened there, as Betts is now with the Los Angeles Dodgers, ready to try and help the NL West powerhouse get back to the World Series.

Meanwhile for Devers, he’s off to a hot start for Boston this campaign, hitting .381 with one homer and four RBI. Devers is also known for his amazing glove, as his defensive abilities are second to none.

Boston dropped the ball here in not finalizing a new deal for him, but fans are definitely understanding now that they know that Devers is wanting so much dough. The same thing happened with the Yankees, as it was reported Aaron Judge wanted around $360 million.

Unless Devers lowers his asking price, it doesn’t look like he and Boston will be able to get on the same page in the near future. That will be a tough pill to swallow for people all over the city, but the Red Sox won’t rush to making any kind of a big decision either.
