Quinnen Williams ‘agrees new four-year, $96 million deal’ with the Jets to stay in New York

The New York Jets and Quinnen Williams have agreed a four-year, $96 million deal, according to reports. 

Williams, coming off his first All-Pro season in 2022, has established himself as one of the league’s best disruptors and the Jets have now ensured he’ll be staying in New York. 

The new deal includes $66 million guaranteed, making it the largest second contract ever for a defensive tackle, according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Williams – the Jets’ first-round pick from 2019 – collected 27.5 sacks, 33 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 11 passes defensed in four seasons.

And it comes as no surprise that the Jets were keen to tie Williams down to a new deal with both parties believed to have been in discussions for months.

Williams was due to make $9.6million guaranteed this season – after the Jets picked up his fifth-year option – but was reportedly hoping for a much-improved deal. He is represented by Klutch Sports agent Nicole Lynn, who worked on Jalen Hurts’ five-year, $255m deal with Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old is the latest defensive tackle to receive a payday during this offseason.  

Both Jeffrey Simmons and Daron Payne have signed deals in excess of $20m per-year annual average with the Titans and Commanders, respectively. Javon Hargrave also landed such a deal in free agency after signing with the 49ers. 

Rams star Aaron Donald leads all D-lineman in terms of average annual salary at $31.7m, followed by Cleveland’s Myles Garrett at $25m and Las Vegas’ Maxx Crosby ($23.5m) and Jeffery Simmons ($23.5m).

‘Everybody knows I’m a team guy, man,’ Williams told reporters in January. 

‘But I do want to get a contract done before the offseason program. I do feel like I deserve to get a contract done before the offseason program just because I did everything right on the field and everything right off the field. 

‘Having the organization behind me just like I’m behind them to show that they really support me is a major thing for me.’

However, coming off a career year, the defenseman skipped the beginning of the Jets’ voluntary workouts in April as he sought a new contract. 

More than once, he expressed his frustration on social media as other top defensive tackles landed huge extensions, even deleting the Jets from his Twitter and changing his bio to read, ‘Defensive tackle for…’
