Qualcomm announces Snapdragon S5 Gen 2 and S3 Gen 2 sound platforms, bring native support for spatial audio, head-tracking, improved ANC and more – Times of India

During the Snapdragon Summit 2022, Qualcomm announced its most advanced Bluetooth audio platforms — Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 Sound Platform and Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 Sound Platform. The new sound platforms join the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the new Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 platforms.
Snapdragon S5 Gen 2 and Snapdragon S3 Gen 2 sound platforms come with support for Snapdragon Sound technology and are optimised to work with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform.
These platforms also bring support for spatial sound, dynamic head-tracking, improved lossless music streaming and more.
Snapdragon S5 Gen 2 and Snapdragon S3 Gen 2: Features
The S5 Gen 2 and S3 Gen sound platforms are designed to offer better sound performance, reduced power consumption and new features like spatial sound, dynamic head tracking, 48ms latency between earbuds and phone for lag-free gaming, lossless music streaming and more.
The platforms also support third-generation Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, which improves the listener experience by adapting to both in-ear fit and the user’s external environment. This Qualcomm Adaptive ANC also includes the company’s Adaptive Transparency mode with automatic speech detection.
For audio device developers, enhanced ANC technology helps solve commonly faced issues such as wind noise, howling and adverse events. The Qualcomm S5 and S3 Gen 2 Sound Platforms are now sampling to customers and commercial products are expected in 2nd half of 2023.
What this means for users
The new S5 Gen 2 and S3 Gen 2 Sound Platforms bring several new features and enhancements. One of the most important aspects is that users will get better audio quality as well as call quality. Both platforms come equipped with improved Active Noise Cancellation with better noise suppression against wind and other background noises. This will improve the overall ANC performance for both audio and calls of the earbuds that are based on these platforms.
Additionally, the platforms include native support for spatial audio and head tracking. This will allow manufacturers to offer these features on their devices and offer a better surround sound experience.
Qualcomm also says that these platforms are designed to offer better power efficiency. That could result in better battery life for TWS earbuds without actually increasing the battery capacity.
