Passengers To Soon Enjoy 24×7 Restaurant-On-Wheels At Andheri, Borivali Railway Stations

Train journeys and food have a special connection in India. As the train makes its way through the stations, it introduces us to the local specialities of different places from the litti chokha, in Bihar, to the humble dosa in the South. A cup of tea remains mandatory and makes our journeys more enjoyable. Well, we all like enjoying food on the go and have relished a range of dishes while travelling in trains. But have you ever seen a whole train coach transformed into a restaurant? If not, you could soon witness it at the Andheri and Borivali stations in Mumbai.

The Western Railway is setting up restaurant-on-wheels at these two stations that will operate round the clock. The 24×7 restaurant is an old railway coach which has been modified and mounted on rails. It will offer a variety of delicacies just like a normal restaurant but with the feeling of eating inside a train. The interior of the restaurant will be theme-based, which will enhance the overall dining experience, according to Mid-Day

The restaurant-on-wheels will be able to accommodate 40 diners at a time and its menu will be decided by the licensee. Usually, such restaurants offer continental, pan-Indian, and other cuisines, the report added. One restaurant-on-wheels is expected to come up at Gate no.10 of the Andheri station in the east. At Borivali station too, the restaurant will be located in the east at the Virar-end of the station, according to Western Railway PRO Sumit Thakur.

Similarly, a rail coach restaurant was opened in a non-functional coach at the Jogbani station in Bihar. “Meals on wheels. With the commencement of a Rail Coach restaurant in a refurbished, non-functional coach at Jogbani Station in Bihar, passengers and the general public can now relish delectable cuisines,” the Ministry of Railways had tweeted sharing a few pictures of the restaurant.
