Nothing To Wear for Fashion Week? James Veloria’s Michael Kors-era Celine Sale Has You Covered

If you’re searching for hot, look-at-me vintage, you’re in luck. James Veloria is hosting a special sale of Michael Kors-era Celine this Saturday, smack-dab in the middle of fashion week. It’s the most recent installment of the beloved Chinatown store’s sought-after curated sales (past iterations have included Tom Ford-era Gucci, Todd Oldham, and Stella McCartney-era Chloé). If those sales’ successes are anything to go by, get there early! Doors open at 12.

The downtown hub’s founders Brandon Veloria Giordano and Colin James Weber spent the summer collecting roughly 90 pieces. “We noticed it was selling so well and thought about what a great visual it would give if you got it all together,” says Weber.

The clothes themselves exude luxury. “It’s very much ‘I do Pilates in a cashmere halter,’” says Giordano, after I describe the vibe as “rich bitch with good arms.” That slick sumptuousness is the allure of Michael Kors’s time at Celine; Carmen Kass strutting down the runway in bathing suit bottoms with a striped cashmere knit or a leather zip-up vest is bizarre, bold, and weirdly admirable. It’s not a surprise that images from the shows have been dotting the internet while lesser-known archival pieces have become more in demand.

Glamorous visuals aside, Giordano and Weber were attracted to the quality of the garments. “It feels like Hermès when you see it in person,” says Giordano. “Every single piece is a hundred percent silk or cashmere.” Weber adds, “The leather is the softest leather you’ve ever felt.” Some of those hit pieces include a denim jacket with a tie-dye sky print and a pair of ombré flares in the same color scheme from spring 2000, the iconic floating chain print on a halter dress and a pair of loose, low-slung pants from spring 2004, and a delicious caramel wrap dress from spring 2002. And for those looking for a not-a-care-in-the-world accessory: there’s a thin striped scarf in hues of light brown, mustard, and pink.

Giordano and Weber also wanted to highlight a more slept-on era of fashion with this Michael Kors-era Celine debut. “I feel Michael Kors needs a moment,” Giordano says. “There are all these fashion people and these American fashion designers that I think are wonderful business people, but he really did some amazing things while he was at Celine.” We’ll give him his due… in our suede halter dresses.
