Moushumi Chatterjee recalls being replaced by Jaya Bachchan in Koshish despite shooting for three days: I could see what manipulations were done – Times of India

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee, who was last seen in director Shoojit Sircar’s 2015 film Piku, recently spoke about her film journey. She also recalled how she was replaced by Jaya Bachchan in the 1972 Gulzar directorial Koshish after shooting for three days.
Talking to an entertainment portal, Moushumi said that she had taken a break from acting in between because she did not want to compromise on her personal and professional boundaries. Because of this, she revealed that she was replaced in multiple films.

She then went on to recall that within three days of shooting for Koshish, she could see what manipulations were done during that time. She could see Jaya’s secretary on the sets from morning to night at the office.

Then all of a sudden, Gulzar asked Moushumi to shoot from the next day a little late in the night. She told him that she had a baby at home and she can only shoot in one shift. Then Gulzar told Moushumi in front of everybody, “You know so many actresses are there in line to take that spot.”

This statement from Gulzar triggered her and Moushumi straight away responded saying, “Then take them.” She then added that Gulzar had even approached her father-in-law and a well-known music director Hemant Kumar to instill some sense in her since she was ready to walk out of the sets. And her father-in-law simple said, “Let her go.”

Koshish, which showcased the challenges of a deaf and mute couple, played by Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan, won two National Awards for Best Screenplay to Gulzar and Best Actor to Sanjeev Kumar.
