Mouni Roy’s Kolkata Trip Features This Classic ‘Mishti’ – See Pic

Bengalis and their love for food need no separate introduction. They are believed to be hardcore foodies, who leave no occasion to indulge. Be it Durga Puja or Diwali, they love turning every occasion into a grand food fest. Don’t believe us? We suggest checking out the Instagram handle of actor Mouni Roy. The actress loves food and never shies away from sharing about it on social media. Every now and then, we find her indulging in yummy foods. Be it on vacation or during work trips, Mouni makes sure to take some time out to explore the food culture of the place (she visits). Take her latest Insta-story, for instance.

Mouni Roy was recently in Kolkata on a work trip. In between all the hustle-bustle, she got herself a classic Bengali dish to enjoy. No points for guessing – it was the popular nolen gurer sandesh (pronounced: shondesh). For the unversed, sandesh is the quintessential Bengali mithai that is prepared with milk and sugar. However, you will also find variations in the recipe, where sugar is replaced with stevia, sweetener and of course, fresh nolen gur (jaggery). Nolen gur is date jaggery, specially made during the winters. However, today you will find nolen gur throughout the year in sweet shops and grocery stores.

Mouni got hold of sandesh made with nolen gur and was seen enjoying it to the fullest. She shared a boomerang video on the photo-sharing app, featuring her chomping the mithai, while setting up her hair (probably for some shoot). “When in Kolkata…nolen gurer sondesh,” she captioned the story. Here’s a glimpse for you:
