Mithun Chakraborty, an iconic figure in the Hindi film industry with a string of superhit movies to his credit, has faced criticism in the past for his involvement in B-grade films. His younger son, Namashi, expressed his opinion in an interview, stating that his father shouldn’t have taken up those projects as they were beneath his stature. However, Mimoh, Mithun’s older son, has now stepped forward to defend his father’s decisions.
Mimoh emphasizes that his father did everything within his means to support and secure their family’s future. He acknowledges that his mother Yogeeta Bali, witnessed the highs and lows of Mithun’s career. Mimoh recounted how his father would become despondent whenever his films failed at the box office. Despite the challenges, Mithun worked tirelessly, sometimes taking on four shifts and even introducing the concept of vanity vans, all while shielding his struggles from his children.
Mimoh further reveals that his father’s motivation for doing those films stemmed from a desire to provide for the family and support his hotel business in Ooty. Whenever films were shot in the area, the cast and crew would stay at their hotel. Contrary to popular belief, the producers of Mithun’s films did make a profit. If a film was made for 70 lakhs, they would earn at least a crore from its release. Even today, Mithun continues to work, be it on the TV shows Dance Bangla Dance or Dance India Dance—everything he does, he does for the well-being of the family.
Mimoh also discloses that he and his siblings were somewhat fearful when their father shared stories of his struggles. There were times when he didn’t have a place to sleep, as his roommate would ask him to leave, and there was even an instance when he had to clean a gym bathroom in exchange for using it.
