Marshawn Lynch ‘pulling for’ former teammate Russell Wilson

Some are writing Russell Wilson off, but he still has at least one staunch supporter: his former Seahawks teammate Marshawn Lynch.

“I didn’t wanna see it in Seattle… now that he ain’t in no Seahawk uniform, I’m pulling for him,” Lynch said Wednesday on Richard Sherman’s podcast.

Wilson needs someone to cheer him on. He’s experiencing one of the most difficult stretches in his career.

Through five games, he’s posted an 82.8 passer rating, which is his lowest in 11 seasons.  Consequently, he’s received blame for the Broncos 2-3 start, despite the fact that he’s adjusting with a new team.

These tribulations are why Lynch thinks continuing to root for Wilson is important.

“I wanna reach out to him. Right now they’re looking at him like a black sheep.” Lynch said.

Wilson has always been a highly regarded quarterback, so it’s unlikely he’s faced this level of scrutiny during his pro career. Especially after an offseason that was filled with hype, with many claiming it was Super Bowl or bust for the Broncos.

It’s getting harder to find supporters of Wilson amid the disastrous start to his Broncos tenure. To his credit, he tries to remain positive, but a recent Twitter post quoting Winston Churchill shows he’s feeling the pressure.

Maybe the mental battle explains Wilson’s rocky start, and he just needs a reaffirmation reminding him that he’s a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion.
