“For the moments when you make a mistake or simply change your mind, message editing allows you to edit your sent messages, giving you greater control over your chats,” WhatsApp said in a separate statement.
The company said users need to long-press on a sent message and choose ‘edit’ from the menu. This can be done for up to fifteen minutes after the message is sent.
Edited messages will display ‘edited’ alongside them, so those who are being messaged are aware of the correction without showing an edit history. “As with all personal messages, media and calls, user messages and the edits they make are protected by end-to-end encryption,” WhatsApp said in a statement.
This feature has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp said this feature lets users protect their most intimate conversations with a password and secures them in a separate folder, and when someone messages users and they have that chat locked, the sender’s name and the content of the message will also be hidden.WhatsApp had said Chat Lock joins WhatsApp’s growing list of privacy features that users can take advantage of including end-to-end encryption and encrypted backups, disappearing messages, screenshot blocking, controls over who can see when users were last online.
“Our passion is to find new ways to help keep your messages private and secure. We’re excited to bring to you a new feature we’re calling Chat Lock, which lets you protect your most intimate conversations behind one more layer of security,” WhatsApp had said in a statement.
