Reports were rife that Manish Malhotra is planning to direct Meena Kumari’s biopic. Now, the Bollywood designer has finally confirmed the reports.

In an interview with a news portal, Manish Malhotra said that he does not know how the reports got out but it is indeed happening. According to him, they are still working in on the script. The designer added that he has been reading her books as the film is based on them.

He went on to add that he has always been fascinated by Meena Kumari.Elaborating further, Manish told Film Companion that veteran actress Rekha told him once that when he turns 40, he will understand the genius of Meena Kumari. And that is true. But he was young and he was busy working but when he turned 40 he not only understood the genius of Meena Kumari but even Nargis ji and Dilip Kumar and Guru Dutt. The designer revealed that he started watching that cinema and understanding it so much better. According to him, Meena Kumari is phenomenal with her expressions, the way she uses her eyes and her adaa.

Earlier, when the reports started doing the rounds, Tajdar Amrohi, the stepson of Meena Kumari and son of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, had reportedly expressed his discontent and even threatened legal action against Manish Malhotra and Kriti Sanon, who is being considered to play Meena Kumari on the big screen.
