Lucknow cops file FIR after video of namaz at LuLu Mall goes viral

Uttar Pradesh police has filed a FIR against unidentified persons after a video of people reading namaz in the freshly inaugurated LuLu

Mall in Lucknow went viral on Thursday even as SP chief Akhilesh Yadav cautioned against investment getting affected due to influence of “conspiracy politics” over commercial activities. Further, the police also detained three members of a right-wing organisation on Friday after they were seen attempting to enter the mall to recite the “Subdarkand” in protest of the namaz. They were booked for breach of peace.

The administration of the mall had distanced itself from the activity in a statement saying it does not permit any organised activity or prayer inside the premises and that the staff has been “trained” to ensure no such activities are carried out, while also calling for the police to take appropriate action.

On Friday, signboards came up in the mall at various points stating “no religious activities will be allowed inside the mall”. Sections of 153A, 295A that deal with punishment for promoting enmity between communities on religious grounds and for acts to outrage religious feelings, have been imposed against unidentified persons for reading the namaaz.Rajesh Srivastava, additional deputy commissioner of police, Lucknow South said police was probing the matter using CCTV footage.
