LIV Golf’s 12 teams pose for huge group photo ahead of season opener in Mexico with an uneven 49

LIV Golf’s 12 teams pose for huge group photo ahead of season opener in Mexico – with hatless Martin Kaymer making it an uneven 49 players after he was ruled out of the first event due to injury

LIV Golf’s roster has gathered together for a photo ahead of its season beginning Friday in Mayakoba, Mexico.

The ‘Class of ’23’ posed for a photo with all 48 players – and one extra – posing for a photo. All were wearing hats, except for Martin Kaymer who will not play at El Camaleon Golf Course following an injury.

To make it a perfect 48, the ex-world No.1 will be replaced by Laurie Canter on The Cleeks. Kaymer is still in Mayakoba supporting his team and he will continue to rehab an ongoing wrist issue.

‘I can do my rehab here and my putting,’ he added. ‘It’s the right thing to be here and support my team,’ Kaymer said Wednesday, via GolfDigest.

‘So I’m putting right now. Little bit of chipping here and there. But I still have pain once in a while. I have some good days and some not so good days. Hopefully I can start hitting golf balls in 2-3 weeks. That’s the goal.’

Players while have a shotgun start at 1.15pm ET, starting in groups of three as they compete in 12 teams of four. There are 48 regular players on LIV’s roster for their second season, with the likes of Canter able to step in for injury.

Phil Mickelson, 52, is the oldest player on the Saudi-backed tour meanwhile David Puig is the youngest at 21.

16 countries are represented on LIV Golf’s regular roster, with the United States predictably leading the way with the most players (19). Following the Americans, are those from England (5), Australia (4), South Africa (4) and Spain (3).

Meanwhile, 21 American universities are represented by 30 players across the tour. Arizona State and Oklahoma State are tied for the most golfers on the LIV roster at five.

LIV has continued to stay in the headlines and the legal courts in its offseason. Its players will be able to compete at the Open this summer, in addition to already being allowed to play at The Masters and US Open.

Earlier this week, a federal judge ruled the PGA Tour can add Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and its governor, Yasir al-Rumayyan, as defendants in its countersuit in the ongoing legal fight with LIV Golf.
