Leicester seal Conor Coady deal after agreeing £8.5m package with Wolves

Leicester have agreed to pay Wolves £7.5m with a further £1m if promoted for defender Conor Coady, 30, who will have a medical on Thursday.

Coady spent last season on loan at Everton, who decided against taking up their £4.5m option to sign him outright after beating the Foxes to Premier League survival.

The England defender therefore left Goodison Park upon the expiry of his loan and is now due to return to Wolves this summer.

However, Leicester are hoping to prise him away from Molineux despite seeing an initial offer rejected.

It was believed a fee of £4.5m may have been enough to secure a deal, but Wolves are demanding £7.5m upfront for their veteran centre-back.

And Leicester have agreed to pay exactly that, along with an additional £1m should they seal an immediate return to the Premier League next season.

Coady made 25 appearances for Everton, scoring two goals, and excelled in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth on the final day, when they avoided relegation.

But he had not started any of the previous 13 matches when Sean Dyche dropped him to play first Michael Keane and then Yerry Mina.

The player was previously held in high regard by Gareth Southgate and England, having been part of the European Championship side that lost in the Wembley final to Italy. 

Coady has been capped 10 times for his country, scoring a single goal in that time, though he has fallen some way down the pecking order since the Euros in 2021.

Leicester are also competing with Southampton for Swansea striker Joel Piroe.

And on Wednesday they waved goodbye to James Maddison after the midfielder completed a £45m move to Tottenham.
