Karan Johar shares he had no idea of finances before his dad passed away, reveals he used to sign cheques with ‘lots of love’ – Times of India

Often we tend to live in our parents’ shadow even as adults and have no inkling of the outside world and the way it functions vis-à-vis finances, business and the like. Only when something as tragic as a demise takes place in a family, many of us grow up overnight and take on a bigger role amongst our near and dear ones. Filmmaker Karan Johar recently revealed that while he is credited with making Dharma Productions huge, he actually took over the reins of the production house only after his father Yash Johar passed away in 2004.

In an interaction with former actor and author Twinkle Khanna for Tweak India, the 50-year-old shared that for the longest time, he was living under the shadow of his father and had no idea of the financial aspect of their production house.

Not only this, sharing a hilarious incident, the filmmaker said that after coming back from an award show where he signed many autographs, his father asked him to then sign a few cheques. Getting confused, the filmmaker inadvertently signed ‘lots of Love’ on the cheques, leading to him getting a piece of mind from his father. Karan also admitted to meeting his accountant for the first time only after his father’s death.

Karan said that years later, he is still poor with money matters and usually, that part is handled by his close friend and business partner, Apoorva Mehta.
