Jets’ new receiver Mecole Hardman said potential Aaron Rodgers arrival was NOT reason he chose team
Jets’ new wide receiver Mecole Hardman said potential Aaron Rodgers arrival was NOT the reason he chose Gang Green… as former Chief praises teammates and coaching staff
Mecole Hardman signed with the Jets earlier this week – and the former Chiefs speedster has insisted a potential Aaron Rodgers arrival isn’t what lured him to New York.
Hardman joined on a one-year, $6.5million deal while former Green Bay wideout Allen Lazard was inked to a four-year, $44million contract beforehand.
The main elephant in the room is Rodgers’ apparently stagnated deal to the Jets, but there were already other factors that drew Hardman to the Jets.
‘I probably still definitely would have signed here just given the coaching staff,’ Hardman said via the New York Post.
‘Nobody knows what’s happening with this [Rodgers] deal. You all know what I know — basically what we are hearing. What did it do for my decision? Nothing, basically.
‘They’ve got a great foundation here — some nice pieces,’ he added. ‘Lazard signing, playing alongside him is going to be great, too. [Garrett] Wilson had an absolutely unbelievable [rookie] year.
Mecole Hardman totaled totaling 2,088 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns for the Chiefs

‘The news with A-Rod is something you can think about, but it was more so that the Jets itself is the right fit for me.’
While Hardman seems satisfied with his decision to join the Jets, it remains a question if and when Rodgers will get traded to New York.
Despite Rodgers proclaiming his desire to play for the Jets on the Pat McAfee Show, there has been no movement on a potential deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Wednesday.
‘The two sides have been stalled in their talks,’ Schefter said. ‘There’s been a standoff with Green Bay wanting more than the Jets are offering.
‘The Jets feel like they’re offering a lot. The Packers feel like they’re not offering enough, and the two sides are left at a standstill.’
Schefter’s comments come after ProFootballTalk reported that Green Bay was being difficult in negotiations, asking for a ‘first-round pick and more’ from the Jets for the 39-year-old.
