Christian Benteke is set to play alongside MLS’ best vs. Arsenal, though a massive name will be missing when Wayne Rooney’s All-Stars play at Audi Field.

Lionel Messi has only just arrived to the league with Inter Miami, and while he won’t share the field with the ex-Crystal Palace striker on Wednesday, his mere presence Stateside has already raised the profile of the league.

‘Obviously now that he’s here, it’s gonna open the door for many other players to come, Benteke exclusively told Mail Sport. ‘I think it’s an exciting moment for MLS and for myself as well.’

Benteke linked up with Rooney last summer in the US capital and is now thriving in his first full season there.

The 32-year-old has fired in eight goals this season, and will suit up alongside the likes of World Cup winner Thiago Almada and ex-Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig vs. the Gunners at his home pitch, Audi Field.

‘It’s really cool. Obviously that was the reason why I came here – to play with the best and against the best as well,’ Benteke said.

The striker took part in a picturesque training session Tuesday morning at Washington’s National Mall, with Rooney present for the light practice.

One day before playing Arsenal, the All-Stars did some stretching before spending the rest of the time playing soccer volleyball.

And while the vibes will remain light heading into what is considered an exhibition, the goal for Rooney’s temporary group is clear.

‘His message was to have fun,’ Benteke said, ‘and to make sure that we win this game.’

The MLS All-Stars will face Arsenal at 8:30pm ET Wednesday.
