ISRO waiting ‘eagerly’ for Chandrayaan 3 to wake up – Times of India

India’s Chandrayaan 3 mission was a huge success as the country’s lunar probe became the first to land on the south pole of the Moon in August. With this mission, India also joined the ‘elite’ club of four countries that have successfully landed their spacecraft on Earth’s natural satellite. After conducting experiments on the moon from August 23 to September 4, the Vikram lander and the Pragyan roverwere put to sleep.This was done for the lander and the rover modules to survive the extremely frigid atmosphere at the south pole of the moon.
Now, Chandrayaan 3’s lander and rover modules are set to wake up from sleep to continue their mission. And, ISRO scientists are eagerly waiting for the Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover to wake up from the 14-day sleep during the lunar night. The government has informed that the lander and the rover are awaiting the wake-up call to get reactivated.
What the government said about waking up Chandrayaan 3
Responding to a discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission in the lower house of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh said: “All efforts are being made to awaken Vikram and Pragyan from their sleep. When we sleep on earth, Vikram and Pragyan will perhaps wake up on the moon.”

According to a report by PTI, Singh also mentioned that the solar batteries of the instruments have been charged fully. Scientists are waiting for the temperature on the lunar surface to rise for the wake-up call to be communicated to Vikram and Pragyan, he added.
Singh noted: “Team ISRO is waiting for sunrise near the south pole of the moon and the temperatures to rise.”
What ISRO said about waking up Chandrayaan 3
In a statement , ISRO chairman S Somanath said: “It would have been easy if there was a way we could know if they would wake up, but we have to wait and see how systems behave after Sunrise”.
He noted that if the systems survived the night and they were able to wake up again, that process would happen automatically.
Both Vikram and Pragyan have achieved their primary mission objectives. It included soft-landing on the Moon, roving on its surface and conducting on-site experiments. Moreover, Vikram even performed a short lunar hop which wasn’t included in the initial mission objectives, ISRO said.
