IPL 2023: Who’ll win Orange Cap?

In IPL 2023, most of the top contenders of the Orange Cap, the award given to the highest run-scorer of the tournament, do not stand any more chance to win it. Six out of the top 10 batters in the competition for the award have seen their team getting eliminated in the league stage. As the situation stands right now, there are only five batters who can win the Orange Cap in IPL 2023.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK)

Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 504 runs in 14 matches so far. The Chennai Super Kings opener has been one of the most consistent performers in the tournament. With a strike rate of 148, he has scored three 50s. His highest score in IPL 2023 is 92. This explosive batter has hit 28 sixes so far in the tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI)

Suryakumar Yadav was doing wonders for India until the IPL started. In the first five innings he played in the tournament, he struggled to score. Except the 43 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Surya could not score more than 15 in the other four matches. He scored 1 against CSK and was out for a duck against Delhi Capitals (DC). Fortunately for Mumbai Indians, SKY picked up in time and started playing devastating knocks one after another. Despite the poor form in earlier matches, Yadav now has a strike rate of 185. He’s scored 511 runs so far, with four 50s and one magnificent hundred.

Devon Conway (CSK)

Another entry from CSK, Devon Conway has scored 585 so far with the highest score of 92 (unbeaten). He is not as explosive as other names in the list but managed to score six 50s. With a decent strike rate of 138, his average score is 53. Conway is at the second position in the list.

Shubman Gill (GT)

Nobody has enjoyed good form in IPL 2023 as much as this Gujarat Titans (GT) opener. Shubman Gill has scored not only one but two centuries back-to-back in this tournament. He has scored 680 runs so far and outshone legends like Virat Kohli and David Warner in the tournament. He has also scored four 50s and has a strike rate of 152.

Faf du Plessis (RCB)

Since the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, with 730 runs, is 50 runs ahead of Gill, he may still win it if Gill fails to score enough in the next two matches. Same goes for the other contenders. Faf’s runs came at the strike rate of 153. He scored eight 50s, highest in IPL 2023. He has also hit 36 sixes, against the highest in the tournament.

Other names

The players, who were in the run but would not be able to score anymore because their teams got eliminated, include Virat Kohli (RCB), Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), David Warner (DC), Rinku Singh (KKR) and Heinrich Klaasen (SRH).
