IPL 2023 KKR vs PBKS: Rana, Russel lead Knights beat Kings by 5 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders on 8 May defeated the Punjab Kings by 5 wickets, with 2 balls remaining – all thanks to powerful knocks by skipper Nitish Rana and Andre Russell.

Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, Punjab Kings scored 178 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs.

PBKS Innings:

After winning the toss, as expected PBKS skipper elected to bat. Openers Prabhsimran Singh (12) and Shikhar Dhawan (57) tried to build a partnership. But, in the second over, Harshit Rana showed Prabhsimran Singh the way to pavilion.

Following this, Rana dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa (0) in the 4th over. When Liam Livingstone (15) came to bat, there was a hope that a partnership will be seen, but he was departed by Varun Chakravarthy in the 6th over.

After this, Jitesh Sharma arrived and scored 21 runs before being dismissed by Varun in the 13th over. Skipper Dhawan too followed the suit and was departed by Rana in the 15th over.

Sam Curran (4) and Rishi Dhawan (19) couldn’t stand the KKR’s bowling attack and were out in the 18th and 17th over. By the end of 20 overs, PBKS managed to put 178 runs after losing 7 wickets.

For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy picked 3 wickets, Harshit Rana took 2, while Nitish Rana and Suyash Sharma clinched one wickets each.

KKR Innings:

Chasing a target of 179 runs, KKR, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (15) couldn’t do much and was departed by Nathan Ellis in the 5th over. Following this, skipper Nitish Rana (51) arrived on the pitch and set a partnership with Jason Roy (38) — who was dismissed by Harpreet Brar in the 8th over.

On Monday, Venkatesh Iyer’s magic didn’t work, and he score on 11 runs before being dismissed by Rahul Chahar in the 14th over.

When KKR sent all-rounder Andre Russell to chase the target, he appeared firm on the pitch. He kept his cool and scored 42 runs in 23 balls. However, skipper Rana had to go back after scoring a half-century after being departed by Rahul Chahar.

Rinku Singh (21*) remained unbeaten, along with Shardul Thakur (0*), and led the Knight Riders to put 182 runs on scorecard. With this, KKR won the match against PBKS by 5 wickets.

After this match, KKR has jumped to 5th position in the IPL points tally with 5 wins and 6 loses, while PBKS is on the 7th spot with the same numbers. However, the net run rate of KKR is more, and hence the point difference.
